Susan O’Brien, MD, is
Associate Director for Clinical Science at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer
Center in Irvine, USA, Medical Director of the Sue and Ralph Stern Center for
Cancer Clinical Trials and Research, and Professor of Medicine at the
University of California, Irvine, USA. Professor O’Brien is section editor for
the journal Cancer, is an internationally recognized leader in the
research of treatments for both chronic and acute leukemias, and an
acknowledged expert on several important treatments that are presently used as
the standard of care for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). She has been
intimately involved with clinical research that has led to many key discoveries
that have advanced the understanding and treatment of the disease. Professor
O’Brien is involved with several professional organizations, such as the
American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Hematology, and
the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She is the Hematology Member of the
SWOG (formerly the Southwest Oncology Group) Executive Committee, and has
authored and co-authored over 800 peer-reviewed articles published in journals
such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, Cancer,
Cancer Research, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
